Big Moon Energy
It’s a full moon Wednesday, witches! The last one of 2022, and a powerful one to harness. This full moon is in Gemini, so be prepared for conversations or situations you’ve been struggling with to come to a climax/resolution. It’s a time you can find clarity as to where you want to put your energy, and where you’ve possibly been wasting it. You will have an easier time seeing people and situations in your life from all angles, some that may have been blocked from you before. Pay attention to this enlightenment.
This is a powerful time for letting go and feeling release.
Focus on: Communication - Clarity - Closure
I find it helpful to really zone in on two to three people and/or circumstances to examine during this period, focusing on the overall theme of the moon phase. Where would better communication be helpful? How can I reframe a message I’ve been trying to get across? Who am I not listening to, that I should be? Is there something I could tell someone that would make them feel better? Or would release me? I find I am usually weighed down the heaviest by things left unsaid. What are circumstances in my life that I am seeking clarity on? How can I pull the pieces together for a clearer image? Where do I need closure? What unrealistic expectations have I put on myself or others that I can lift? What can I release that is no longer serving me? Who can I give closure to, where maybe I’ve been withholding? What can I retract my claws from?
Have you been running in place, fueled by dangerous, silver-lined daydreams? Now, this full moon, is the time to step back. Let it breathe. Communication. Clarity. Closure.
This is really what being a witch, to me, is all about: examining energy. Good or bad, where can I make adjustments to improve my life and my spirit? There are probably a lot of other names for this - meditation, religion, therapy, etc. I relate to the word witch, so that’s what I go with. It’s the best way I have to explain it to people who are curious, or find it weird or silly. To those people I always ask this: if I use the moon phase as a strategic, purposeful time to check in on myself and my relationships … is that really such a bad thing? You don’t have to believe in witches to relate to the desire for self-awareness and self-improvement.
Still think it’s weird? I get it. Being into witches and the moon can easily be labeled as such. Have you ever looked up the definition of weird though? Because I hadn’t until today. It genuinely surprised me.
A person’s destiny. BOOM. I. love. this.
The older I get, the more I love leaning into the weird things about me. They make me unique and special, which when celebrated and nurtured, make me confident and powerful. Being a witch is very much about harnessing our power - power that comes from within all of us. Confidence and power is scary to some people - especially those people who haven’t found theirs yet. It’s why they use labels and matches - a reflection of their own weakness, not ours. Witch hunters. They get their energy from burning that which they don’t understand. What a sad way to live, always trying to burn down other people.
Looking forward into the new year, I really want to consciously spend time nurturing the weirdness in people. I want them to feel their power. Identify as a witch - or not! Who cares. But feel your power. Don’t let anyone take it from you.
Allow people their wildness and weirdness. Help them on their journey. What a special gift we can give each other - and so simply. What a blessing. What a beautiful way to live. While I’m not perfect and have to learn this lesson MANY times over, I do find that the more energy I give to the right people and circumstances, the more I get back. Have you been emptying energy into a person or situation that is a black hole? Can you redirect that somewhere else?
Why not give it a try this week? You don’t even have to tell anyone about it. The worst that can happen is: nothing. You don’t get anything out of it. The best? You release something that has been weighing on you, or you bring closure for someone else. Or maybe, you learn a little something about yourself that you didn’t know before. What a, dare I say MAGICAL, way to end the year and prepare for a fresh, new one. If you really want to get crazy, set out some water in any clear jar that you have overnight and let the moon charge it. Bring it in before the sun. Drink it, bath in it, whatever - but do it while intentionally thinking about what you want it to bring you: relaxation, energy, sleep, confidence, patience, clarity - whatever! - just be intentional. Voila - you’ve harnessed moon water.
Or not, you know, maybe that’s just too weird. It’s all up to you.
But I think you should harness that big moon energy. Focus on communication. Focus on clarity. Focus on closure. Focus on where you wish to receive it, as well as how you can give it.
Mostly though, BE WEIRD. All the best people are.

“We are the blood
of the witches
you thought were dead.
We carry witchcraft in our bones
whilst magic still sings
inside out heads.
When the witch hunters
imprisoned our ancestors
when they tried to burn the magic away.
Someone should have
warned them
that magic cannot be tamed.
Because you cannot burn away
what has always
been aflame.”
